The Jeffrey Lewis Band mixes 60s acoustic psychedelia like Pearls Before Swine with the experimental art-punk of the Fall and the urban lyricism of Lou Reed, sounding a bit like if Woody Guthrie fronted Sonic Youth.  | LEE RANALDO AND THE DUST (US / Matador) Member of Sonic Youth since now 30 years, visual artist, writer, producer etc.. Lee Ranaldo released his solo album "Between the Times and the Tides" last year on Matador records, with contributions from Steve Shelley, Nels Cline, John Medeski, Alan Licht, Irwin Menken, Jim O'Rourke, Kathy Leiesen and Bob Bert. The 4 piece band (including Steve Shelley - drums and Alan Licht - guitar) has been performing live since early 2012 and already played among other shows Primavera Festival, Roskilde Festival, Kilbi Festival.  | NISENNENMONDAI (JP / Various) Nisennenmondai are three women from Tokyo, Sayaka Himeno (drums), Yuri Zaikawa (bass) and Masako Takada (guitar), who have been playing instrumental music together since they met over ten years ago in college. Discovered after being lauded by members of groups including Battles and No Age, and most recently Gang Gang Dance, Prefuse 73, and Hella, Nisennenmondai are one of the few acts today that truly blow your mind! be ready their groovy krautrock no wave disco live!  | QUINTRON AND MISS PUSSYCAT (US / Goner Records) Quintron has been making genre-defying noise and 'swamp tech' dance music in New Orleans for over 15 years. The majority of his 13 full length albums have the psychedelic soul of New Orleans garage R&B filtered through a distorted Hammond B-3 and a cache of self-made electronic instruments. Quintron's permanent collaborator is none other than master puppeteer, miss pussycat who plays maracas and sings as well as entertains all age groups with her highly amusing technicolor puppet shows.  | CIVIL CIVIC (AUS / Gross Domestic Product ) Melbourne-raised, London/Barcelona-dwelling Noise-pop instrumentalist duo CIVIL CIVIC are available for selected shows during the summer, after spending the last months working on their long-awaited second album (release date TBA). They released their debut album RULES in October 2011, garnering yet more praise from both the music press with it's weird mix of teeth-grinding intensity, pop triumphalism and party-on abandon. They toured extensively since 2010 and established themselves as blistering, party-bringing live act.  | WHITE MANNA (USA / Holy Mountain) White Manna completed their first tour of Europe in September 2013 and won over hearts, minds and bodies with their tight and heavy grooves. With their mind-blowing live show they got invited to play WFMU stage at SXSW w/ Half Japanese, Pop Montreal, Rock en Seine, Great Escape, Villette Sonique, Le Guess Who? Reeperbahn, Eurosonic…and toured alongside Animal Collective, King Khan & BBQ, Quintron, Glass Candy, The Fall and many others.  | BARDO POND (USA / Fire) Formed in 1991 by brothers Michael and John Gibbons, Bardo Pond are one of the foremost practioners of US psychedelic music, fusing the brother's noise guitars with the sublime vocal and flute intonations of Isobel Sollenberg, the mantra like basslines of Clint Takeda and the percussive power of drummer Jason Kourkounis (Hot Snakes, Delta 72). 2013 has seen the LP issue of their 2006 classic "Ticket Crystals", as well as the 'sold out in a day' covers EP that featured Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" and Pharoah Sanders' "The Creator Has a Master Plan".  | ALOA INPUT (DE / Morr Music)  ALOA INPUT is an experimental pop trio from Munich, and their first album "Anysome" was released on Morr Music in October of 2013. Drawing from a long list of influences all three members agree upon (e.g. Animal Collective, Eno, Beck, Beatles, Morricone, Why?, Can, The Notwist), Aloa Input are well aware of the album's world-spanning approach, mentioning "guitars from Cape Town to Portland, beats from Berlin to Chicago, and vocals from NYC to Düsseldorf".  | ROY & THE DEVILS MOTORCYCLE (CH / Voodoo Rhythm) Once described as the strangest brothers in rock and roll, the Staehli brothers work as a single organism. Everything they touch has a warped feel to it; the reverb, distortion and lurching harmonics swirl and boil in the melting pot. Initially, the influences acting upon this Swiss four-piece seem obvious: old, dusty blues records, gospel, dirty garage, Spacemen 3, 13th Floor Elevators, the Velvets and Link Wray; but dig deeper and their love of free-running experimentalists like Lee "Scratch" Perry, Red Krayola, Souled American and Godz becomes clear.  | FENSTER (DE / US / Morr Music) Fenster is a four piece experimental pop band that formed in Berlin in 2011, and their first album "Bones" was released on Morr Music in March of 2012. Since then they have toured extensively in the US and Europe. Their live show is a dynamic mixture of dreamy vocal melodies, noisy improvisation, echoey guitars, warm synthesizers and includes a lot of switching instruments between the band members. They're returning to the US for their album release party in NYC and to play SXSW, and then to Europe this spring, with their second record, out on Morr music in March 2014.  | GLENN BRANCA ENSEMBLE (USA / Various) An American avant-garde composer and guitarist known for his use of volume, alternative guitar tunings, repetition, droning, and the harmonic series, Branca goes back to early 1980s and the "no-wave" era in New York. His first guitar Ensemble and Symphonies featured Sonic Youth guitarists before Sonic Youth even existed. Glenn Branca is now performing with the Glenn Branca Ensemble and will premiere the third part of "Ascension". "Four electric guitars. One electric bass. One set of drums. One Glenn Branca."  | NOVELLER (USA / Saffron Recordings/Weird Forest) Noveller performed as a member of Cold Cave, Parts & Labor, and One Umbrella. Handling the electric guitar as her muse, Sarah Lipstate summons a sonic palette so rich as to challenge the listener to conceive of how it's housed in a single instrument manipulated by a solitary performer. Lipstate has collaborated with Carla Bozulich (Evangelista), David Wm. Sims (the Jesus Lizard) and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth). She has also participated in Rhys Chatham's Guitar Army, Ben Frost's "Music for 6 Guitars" Ensemble, and Glenn Branca's 100 guitar ensemble. Her new album "no dreams" out in october 2013.  | LEE NOBLE (USA / Bathetic Records) Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist Lee Noble built his signature sound around dusty analog drones and idiosyncratic atmosphere, combining synth and tape loop work with a simple song format. Emotional, experimental, personal and introverted, Noble's work will appeal both to hardcore drone-heads and fans of singers-songwriters. His debut vinylHorrorism was released on Bathetic Records last year, adding to a catalog of tape releases.  | ORCHESTRA OF SPHERES (NZ / Fire records) Orchestra of Spheres' second full-length album, Vibration Animal Sex Brain Music, is a surreal road-trip through a hyper primal, fuzzed-out, synth laden, garden of Eden. Recorded in Italy in September 2012, in the midst of an epic 70+ gig European tour, this album captures the band as a live, hot, dynamic unit ... a futuristic bunga-bunga party band for 22nd century boom-boom cults!! Vibration Animal Sex Brain Music is being released on Sound Explorers in NZ and on Fire Records in the rest of the world! The sound is an explosive brew concocted from the primitive, machine-like drumming of Jemi Hemi Mandala, the quicksilver synths of Mos Iocos, the intricate bass lines of EtonalE and the psychedelic biscuit tin guitar work of Baba Rossa.  | PYPY (CAN / Slovenly) Prepare yourselves for a superdope psych-punk thrashing from the lunatic minds behind Montreal's Duchess Says, Sexareenos, CPC Gangbangs, Red Mass. The new amalgamated group is called PYPY (π π), and their debut LP on Slovenly, Pagan Day, is a mind searing concoction of sinister wah-wah freakouts littered with fuzz, distortion and the necromantic scree of co-lead singer Annie-Claude Deschênes. Super disco-breaks reminiscent of the dance punk of NYC's legendary 99 Records (ESG / Liquid Liquid) slither in on "Daffodils," and the blistering pop of "She's Gone" rivals Thee Oh Sees most burning tracks.  | TRANS AM (US / Thrill Jockey) Trans Am are back with a new record Volume X to be released in Europe In Aug! It is the band's tenth studio release, comprised of ten songs that display ten unique sides of Phil Manley, Nathan Means, and Sebastian Thomson. Volume X can also refer to a volume knob being cranked all the way up, the amplification level for an ideal Trans Am listening session. Trans Am refuse to rely on their legacy as innovators, opting instead to continue to break down established modes of songwriting, even if they established those modes themselves. Volume X continues in this gloriously contrarian tradition, presenting fans with strange and familiar sounds in new contexts, from kosmische rock to futuristic speed metal to robo-balladry to variants on classic rock that are so warped as to be rendered completely unrecognizable.
