sleepmakeswaves release remix album
For immediate release: Sydney ambient/melodic post-rockers SLEEPMAKESWAVES have announced they will release a collection of remixes of their ARIA-nominated debut album "
and so we destroyed everything." Featuring contributions from 65daysofstatic, Rosetta, Kyson, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving, Serious Beak, Atlantis, Glasfrosh and Klue, the album is cheekily titled "
and then they remixed everything" and is out January 17th.
Ahead of the release, the band have previewed the album with the remixes from Kyson, 65daysosfstatic and Rosetta featuring on Triple J, FBi and community radio nationwide.
"we like you when you're awkward" Kyson remix
"our time is short but your watch is slow" 65daysofstatic remix
"in limbs and joints" Rosetta remix
The latest remix to hit radio is DJ Klue's funky breakdown of 'to you they are birds, to me they are voices in the forest' which features the epic track converted into a danceable jam.
The release follows a break-out year for sleepmakeswaves. After bringing in 2012 at Peats Ridge Festival, they kicked off the "(hello) Australia" tour in February and March, before heading overseas to tour the US, including SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. They continued onto a 15-date tour of Europe, including Belgium's Dunk Festival alongside the legendary 65daysofstatic (which provided the catalyst for the UK band's first ever visit to Australia).
In July sleepmakeswaves opened for prog rock icons Karnivool on a sold out 16-date tour of Australia, before following up with their own sold out headline tour in September.
The release of "
and so we destroyed everything" has seen the band's star rise considerably. It was named 'Record of the Week' by RTR (WA), KOOP (Texas) and Nowlikephotographs (US) and featured in a number of year-end lists: Drum Media, TheMusic.com.au, Sputnik Music and Metal Obsession. The first 2 singles, the driving melodic anthem '(hello) cloud mountain,' and the brooding 'In Limbs and Joints' have featured on Triple J, FBi, 4zzz, Edge, PBS, RTR and RRR as well as spending 7 weeks on the CMJ US college radio chart.
In October, the band were overwhelmed by the news that "
and so we destroyed everything" was nominated for a 2012 ARIA award. "It's a huge surprise and honour to be recognised, being such a small underground band we hope the nomination shines a light on all the great underground bands we've played with over the years and generates some more recognition towards the great music and the hard work they produce." Alex Wilson, bass/keys.
sleepmakeswaves were most recently announced as the support for UK electronic-rock legends 65DAYSOFSTATIC and toured Australia in January.
The band will play a select number of shows in 2013 before decamping to write and record their next album.
